At minimum, make sure your lights are all working and your tires are in good shape. Look for abnormal wear of your treads and use the penny test for tread depth.
Check & Change Out Fluids
The single most important thing you can do to extend the life of your car is to frequently check your engine oil and radiator coolant fluid levels and have them replaced at your vehicle manufacturer's recommended intervals.
Read your owner's manual to find out the recommended interval for changing your engine's oil and radiator anti-freeze. Most manufacturers recommend out your engine oil between every 5,000 to 8,000 miles.
Have Your Timing and Serpentine Belts Inspected

Serpentine belts are typically recommended for a change-out every 40,000 miles.

Car batteries are notorious for having corrosion build-up around the electrical wiring contacts. Be sure to occasionally inspect your battery wiring for corrosion taking a wire brush to remove it and tighten down your contact bolts.
Also pay attention to the age stamp found on most car batteries as an indication of time for a replacement. Most car batteries are rated for 36 months of service.
Rotate Tires & Alignments
Most tires are rated for 50,000 miles of travel life. Extend the life of your tires by having them rotated every 15,000 miles. Typically the front tires will wear based on it's alignment. Rotating your tires will ensure individual tires won't wear out as fast based on this.
